Cellular Jail Light and Sound Show 2026: Timings, Tickets and Tips
The evening Light and Sound Show at Cellular Jail is the one experience almost every visitor to Port Blair (Sri Vijaya Puram) calls unmissable. In about 45 minutes, the story of the jail and the freedom fighters held here unfolds in the open courtyard, told through light, sound and narration, with the old peepal tree inside the compound as the storyteller.
Show timings (2026)
- First show: 5:50 PM in Hindi, every day.
- Second show: 6:50 PM in Hindi on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
- Second show: 6:50 PM in English on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Timings can change with the season, and an extra late show is sometimes added at peak times, so confirm the schedule when you book.
Ticket prices
- Adults: Rs 300.
- Children aged 5 to 11: Rs 150.
- Daytime entry to the jail and museum is a separate ticket of Rs 30.
How to book
Book through the official Andaman Tourism e-Tourist portal, or at the ticket counter at Cellular Jail. In peak season (October to May), book a day or two ahead, because the English show runs only three evenings a week and fills quickly.
Make a day of it
See the jail properly in daylight first. The cells, gallows and museum galleries are open from Tuesday to Sunday, roughly 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM and 1:30 PM to 4:45 PM, and closed on Mondays and national holidays. Then come back in the evening for the show, which brings everything you saw to life.
Tips for a better evening
- Arrive about 30 minutes early: centre seats facing the lit wing and the peepal tree give the best view.
- Carry a light shawl or jacket, as the open courtyard can get breezy after dark.
- For the English show, plan your evening for a Monday, Wednesday or Friday.
- Watch the show before you leave for the islands; it makes a moving first evening before your ferry to Havelock (Swaraj Dweep) or Neil (Shaheed Dweep).
